Name : VM12-SHC high-corrosion resistant Seamless Pipes the replacement of X20CrMoV11-1 in existing power plants.
DEFINITION
VM12-SHC (super high-corrosion resistant) is a 12Cr-1.6Co-1.5W ferritic-martensitic steel developed by Vallourec. It is micro-alloyed with vanadium and niobium and has controlled boron and nitrogen contents.
APPLICATION
Applications include advanced fossil-fuelled power plants and HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generators) or the replacement of X20CrMoV11-1 in existing power plants.
CHALLENGES
VM12-SHC exhibits good creep behavior, comparable with that of grade T/P91, and excellent processing characteristics (i.e. cold bending and weldability) similar to that of 9 % Cr steels. Its 12 % chromium content offers excellent oxidation resistance up to 650 °C. The maximum permissible temperature is 620 °C according to ASME Code Case 2781 and VdTÜV 560/2. Seamless tubes in VM12-SHC manufactured at Vallourec’s European mandrel mills are supplied in the normalized and tempered condition with wall thicknesses of up to 12 mm.
